"It was absurd": EasyJet charges a fee for suitable hand luggage and threatens to ban flights!
England - An employee of the airline EasyJet allegedly charged a TikToker an unnecessary fee for his hand luggage - even though the bag had the intended dimensions without any problems!
Jake Hughes, who was flying from Manchester(England) to the Portuguese capital Lisbon, was told at the gate that his bag was too big for the cabin.
According to the New York Post, an airline employee is said to have advised him to repack the bag so that it would fit easily into the device.
Even after Hughes did this and put on several pieces of clothing on top of each other, the employee was still unhappy.
"He said he saw that I had put on extra clothes and told me to repack the bag and not relieve it. It was absurd," says Hughes.
As he didn't want to miss his flight, he finally paid the fee of around 58 euros. Before he went any further, however, he pulled out his cell phone and shot a short video to prove that the bag fitted into the facility.
Jake Hughes uploaded the clip to TikTok
But the staff didn't like this at all and promptly asked him to delete the video in exchange for a refund.
"When I tried to board the plane, they threatened to block my boarding pass if I didn't delete the footage. It was an absolute nightmare."
He complied with the instruction, but fortunately did not delete all the footage and uploaded the clip to TikTok after landing, where the video quickly amassed over five million views.
EasyJet then contacted Hughes, apologized and offered him a refund, which he did not accept.
"We are working with our ground handling provider in Manchester to investigate why Mr. Hughes was charged a fee for his cabin baggage, which appeared to be within the baggage allowance," the airline said in a statement.
