On Saturday, the 67-year-old left the road and ended up in the bush. After the accident , she immediately called her husband to tell him about her misfortune .

He immediately made his way to the wooded area near Abercrombie and Oxford. Once there, however, he couldn't find his wife anywhere, so he decided to call 911.

"We don't know exactly what happened to cause her car to leave the road. She could have been trying to avoid an animal or looked down for a second, we just don't know," Anna Watkins, public information officer for the sheriff's office, told the Macon Telegraph.

Investigators were still searching for the missing woman Saturday night, but the after-dark effort was unsuccessful.

The search was resumed the following morning. At around 11.30 a.m. (local time), the emergency services finally had the sad certainty.

"She was found dead at the bottom of a deep well surrounded by thick brush near where her car was found," said Watkins.

Multiple agencies were on the scene for the incident. A local fire department used a crane to retrieve the body from the hole.

According to the sheriff's office, it was a "tragic accident," but the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
