Woman hopes dog will find friends in hoard: Surveillance video opens her eyes
Michigan (USA) - It's always an unpleasant situation for dog owners when they have to leave their four-legged friend at home alone - especially if it's for several hours. Nikki Sykora (24) from Michigan didn't want to do that to her furry friend when she had to go to university to study dentistry. Hoping that her one-year-old dog Maisy would quickly make friends at a dog day care center, she decided to leave her there. But a surveillance video soon opened her eyes.
Last month, the young woman published a photo show on TikTok in which the dilemma of her little dog becomes clear. In the first picture, all is still well with the world: Maisy is happily sitting in the car on the way to doggy daycare.
But then comes the second photo, a still from a surveillance camera at the dog daycare center: it becomes clear that Maisy doesn't have it easy. While several dogs stand together at the gate to the garden, the little fur nose sits all alone in a corner.
Not exactly what the student would have wished for her four-legged friend. The TikTok audience is not left cold by the pictures either. The photo show has already been clicked on 1.5 million times.
But the 24-year-old is not going to be discouraged so quickly. In an interview with Newsweekthis week, she explained why she continues to take Maisy to doggy daycare .
Maisy is now coping better in the kennel
"I much prefer her to be with other people and dogs than to be alone most of the day - and I think she likes that better too," Sykora told the US magazine.
She also said: "Her socialization with other dogs has improved a lot since she started daycare, even if it doesn't look like it in this photo."
Incidentally, the US American is not alone in her opinion. Science also agrees with her. According to this, dogs should not be left alone for hours on end.
Even if it can be a little bumpy at first: Dog daycare or a dog sitter are a better alternative.
