That hurt! Krampus almost cuts off woman's fingertips

Tyrol (Austria) - Last Saturday , the traditional Krampus processions took place in various towns in Austria, attracting a large number of onlookers every year. But for two women, their visit to the parade ended painfully in hospital.

The Krampus is the left hand of St. Nicholas and is supposed to punish naughty children with his rod, while St. Nicholas gives presents to the good ones.

As reported by the"Kronen Zeitung", one of the two accidents occurred in Imst.

There, a 22-year-old woman held on to a metal fence that served as a barrier to the parade. A passing Krampus is said to have noticed this and hit her on the hand with his wooden rod.

After the hit, the Tyrolean woman's left hand swelled up so badly that she could no longer move her fingers.

That same evening, she went to hospital on her own, where her injury was treated.

Time and again, there are unintentional altercations between the audience and performers during the parades. These often end in wounds or broken bones.

Another attack is said to have taken place in Anras (district of Lienz).

A 51-year-old woman was also standing at the barrier there. At around 6.10 pm, her left hand suddenly got stuck between two of the barrier fences. At the same time, one of the performers on the other side of the fence kept shaking it back and forth. It is still unclear whether he noticed the trapped woman.

The local woman suffered severe bruising to her hand as a result of this incident. In addition, the fingertips of her left hand were almost completely severed.

She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment.
