According to the Styrian police, a Rottweiler attacked the 34-year-old woman who was looking after the dog during a walk on Friday evening, causing her serious injuries.
There had apparently been an altercation between the four-legged friend and another dog, which made the eight-year-old male dog so aggressive that he suddenly attacked the woman.
The alerted police quickly rushed to help and tried to drive the Rottweiler away with sirens and pepper spray - but it continued to bite, attacking the helpless Austrian woman on her legs, hips and stomach.
Police shoot Rottweiler

Only when all attempts to stop the dog failed did the police officers see no other option than to shoot the animal.
The Rottweiler, which weighed around 60 kilograms, then succumbed to its injuries.
The woman was taken to hospital with bleeding bite wounds.
According to initial investigations, the dog was on a lead and was even wearing a muzzle, but this broke during the attack.
The Rottweiler is said to have bitten a five-year-old child in the past, which led to official requirements.
The police have launched an investigation against the dog's owner on suspicion of negligent bodily harm.
