Family sold their house to travel in a caravan - now they are homeless!
Sunshine Coast (Australia) - It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime for a family from Queensland - but then everything took a tragic turn.
As the Daily Mail reports, Alison Pope and her husband set off to travel Australia with their three sons after selling the house they shared in 2022.
It was their big dream to discover the country, enjoy the freedom and live in a caravan. But what began as an exciting adventure eventually turned into a nightmare.
Because in February 2024, they decided to swap their old caravan for a modern model in order to continue living the dream.
The family found the perfect trailer and paid the first deposit - full of anticipation for the new chapter of their journey.
But what they didn't know: Just a few months later, they would be faced with the wreckage of their existence.
Family pays the balance, but is simply ignored
They sold their old caravan and rented accommodation to bridge the transition period.
Delivery of the new caravan was announced for a period of eight to ten weeks - a period that the family waited patiently for.
At the end of May, the family finally received the message from Tango Caravans that their new caravan was now in production - and that they should pay the remaining amount of 80,000 dollars (more than 78,000 euros).
Full of confidence, they transferred the entire sum in the firm belief that they would be able to move into their new home in two weeks.
But then nothing happened. The family heard nothing more from the company. Calls went unanswered, emails were ignored.
The family was defrauded and is now asking for donations
Their dream was shattered when they found out in August that they were not alone - other Tango Caravans customers were also facing the same problems.
The company was bankrupt and finally came to light.
The Melbourne-based company had defrauded the family and many others.
For Alison and her husband, the shock was overwhelming. Their caravan had never been built and the prospect of getting the money back was almost nil.
Suddenly the five of them found themselves in a completely desperate situation - homeless, with nothing in their pockets and a shattered dream.
They have now found accommodation in a rented apartment, but even this situation is only temporary.
The family is now asking for supportvia GoFundMe. They are collecting donations to buy a new caravan and continue to pursue their dream despite the fraud and disappointment.
