Accident on Mallorca: German paraglider crashes!

Palma (Spain) - A paraglider has crashed in the south of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca and landed on a cliff.

The mountain rescue team from the Guardia Civil police unit arrived at Cape Cabo Blanco with a helicopter early on Friday evening and found the man injured on a 100-metre-high rock about 20 meters from the sea, according to a press release.

A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil confirmed to the German press agency that the victim was a 50-year-old man from Germany. It is not known which city the man comes from.

The background to the crash is still unclear. According to media reports, the man was an experienced paraglider pilot.

He was still conscious and was able to make the emergency call himself.

Footage of the rescue operation is circulating online

The rescue team was able to abseil down and administer first aid to the casualty. The man had a broken ankle and a bleeding knee. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital in the island's capital, Palma.
