Deadly attack! 24-year-old is mauled by great white shark
New Zealand - Together with a few friends, Jade Kahukore-Dixon (†24) took a boat to a group of islands off the mainland to go fishing and diving. But when Jade jumped off the boat into the water, a great white shark bit her.
As the New Zealand news magazine Stuff reports, the attack occurred last Tuesday, around 800 kilometers east of the South Island, near the Chatham Islands.
After the attack, the 24-year-old was rushed to the nearest hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.
In an interview with Stuff, Jacky Dixon, the father of the victim, said that he himself did not yet have any precise information about what exactly happened before the attack.
Jade Kahukore-Dixon was a professional diver who often encountered great white sharks on his dives. "When he saw a shark, he would hold his breath and hide behind a rock on the seabed," said his father.
A New Zealand shark researcher described the incident as "incredibly tragic and incredibly sad".
According to him, sharks are rare in this region. Nevertheless, there are always reports of sightings of these sea creatures.
