Man inherits 5-dollar bill from grandma: When the Internet sees the banknote, it goes completely berserk
California (USA) - This inheritance doesn't sound like much money at first. However, the bills bequeathed to a man from California are something very special. He was offered unbelievable sums of money online. His reaction? Surprising.
Tommy, the boyfriend of TikTok user Charlotte Carroll, was given an album with several dollar bills after the death of his grandmother.
In a video that Charlotte shared on the platform, you can see at first glance that these banknotes are unique.
The 5-dollar bill shows a striking printing error where parts of the print overlap. In the bottom right-hand corner, where the large number "5" is usually visible, the design appears to have been printed twice. The rest of the design is also misaligned or offset.
Charlotte explained to Newsweek that Tommy's grandmother was once an employee in the finance department of Universal Studios in California.
It is not known whether the banknotes came from there. What is clear, however, is that they are incredibly valuable to some other people.
Banknote sends Internet into a frenzy
"We had people offering between 5 and 400,000 dollars (the equivalent of around 379,000 euros) for it," says the US American. "I decided to share it on TikTok because I have a big community in the world of money collectors that I wanted to share it with."
But Charlotte hadn't anticipated that her clip would be viewed almost a million times and receive more than 700 comments.
But despite the insane offers, Tommy and his girlfriend have decided to keep the 5-dollar bills. "It's our favorite and most valuable piece in our entire collection," says Charlotte.
The special inheritance inspired so many users on TikTok: "It's worth SO much!" one person writes excitedly.
Another user advises: "Woooooow, you're lucky! Keep it for the future." And that's apparently what the couple are planning to do so far.
