Fishermen can't believe what's tangled up in their net!
Malangen (Norway) - Fishermen from Norway made a truly bizarre catch last Monday. But they couldn't be happy about it, because it cost them dearly.
The fishing boat "Øygutt" was sailing on the Norwegian Sea near Malangen when a radio message suddenly came from the coastguard, as reported by the public broadcaster"NRK".
The crew had just emptied the nets and were heading back to the mainland when they learned that they had dragged an entire submarine with them.
The US nuclear submarine "USS Virginia" had been caught in the net and had finally separated after about two nautical miles (around four kilometers).
As funny as this story sounds, it is rather unpleasant for the fishermen. "The net is at the bottom of the sea. It's gone and we probably won't get any compensation," says one of them.
A big problem, because what is now just a ghost net drifting on the bottom of the sea costs between 3,400 and 4,200 euros.
The case has been confirmed
Submarines like the "USS Virginia" are always underway in the sheltered fjords of Norway.
The country's coast guard helps to get supplies on board or, as in this case, to cut off the remains of a net from the ship's propeller.
The US Navy has now alsoconfirmed the curious incident.
