Rome (Italy) - White smoke rises into the night sky of the Italian capital, a new coach for AS Roma seems to have been found.

According to consistent media reports, Rome-born Claudio Ranieri (73) will take over from recently departed head coach Ivan Jurić (49).

According to the national daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 73-year-old has signed a contract until June 2025 - and is also set to lead the traditional club's first training session tomorrow morning (Thursday).

Official confirmation from the club is therefore only a matter of time and is expected to take place in the next few hours.

Previously, the club had apparently tried to secure the services of Vincenzo Montella (50), coach of the Turkish national team. Ex-Chelsea coach Graham Potter (49) and Erik ten Hag (54), who was only sacked by Manchester United at the end of October, are also said to have been on the shortlist.

For Ranieri, who sensationally won the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2015, this will be his third attempt at the Giallorossi, having previously been under contract with the Romans from 2009 to 2011 and in 2019.

So now attempt number four to get the struggling club back on the road to success - the Romans are currently only in twelfth place and are lagging far behind their own expectations.

Can the former German international Mats Hummels (35) get off to a flying start in the shirt of the Romans after all?

Mats Hummels gets a new coach! New chance?

The new coach should now give former DFB star Mats Hummels (35) the chance to finally gain a foothold with the capital club - and turn things around after all, as the former BVB professional and 2014 World Cup winner hardly got any playing time under the 49-year-old Croatian's direction.

So now is the opportunity to give it another go - and to offer himself to the new head coach for the starting eleven.
