Terrifying details: Ex-boyfriend of dead woman in suitcase speaks out!
Budapest (Hungary) - The dead tourist found in the suitcase, Mackenzie Michalski (†31), was beaten, raped and brutally murdered, according to her ex-boyfriend.
The 31-year-old from Portland(USA) was on vacation in Budapest, Hungary, when she disappeared without a trace after an evening out. A short time later, a suspect was arrested and her body was found murdered in a suitcase.
Before her trip to Europe, Mackenzie had fallen out with her boyfriend at the time, Kenton Reichen. The couple had been together for six years and had planned to travel together at the end of October, Daily Mail reported.
But after contemplating a break-up, Kenton decided not to go on the trip.
Today, he regrets making that decision and wishes he could have saved her from what happened later.
Her grieving ex-boyfriend claims she was brutally abused before her death.
Family and friends held a candlelight vigil to remember Mackenzie
Last Saturday, friends and family gathered for a vigil in Budapest to remember Mackenzie.
Her ex-boyfriend affirmed there that he had neglected her in many ways and deeply regretted the break-up. He also firmly rejected the suspect's claim that the 31-year-old's death was an accident.
He added that Kenzie did not deserve to be beaten, raped and killed so brutally. It will forever remain the biggest mistake of his life not to have accompanied her on the trip, he said.
Police have not yet confirmed how the American woman died, but revealed that the suspect had been researching online for information about disposing of bodies.
Cruel end during a trip to Europe
Instead of her boyfriend, the 31-year-old was accompanied on her journey by friends until they parted ways shortly before the accident.
Two days after Mackenzie was reported missing, police arrested a 37-year-old Irishman who confessed to the murder and showed officers where he had hidden the body and suitcase.
However, he claimed that the woman's death was unintentional during a sexual act.
The Irishman is now in custody and has been charged with murder.
