Five minutes that changed everything: Girl dies after fatal seizure in bathtub
Wales - A heartbreaking accident occurred in Wales when a mother left her nine-year-old daughter alone in the bathtub for just a few minutes to fetch one of her toys. The little girl suffered an epileptic seizure and died.
As Wales Online reported this week, Julia Myerscough had painstakingly persuaded her daughter to take a bath on the evening in question in September 2021.
After Mia-Ann had finally sat in the bath, her mother noticed that the girl didn't have her favorite toy with her.
Worried that Mia-Ann would not calm down without it, Julia left the bathroom for a few minutes to fetch the toy.
Before doing so, she had made sure that the tap was turned off. But those minutes proved disastrous for the nine-year-old: she suffered an epileptic seizure and went underwater.
During the investigation, her father, Vernon Ward, explained that he had heard a "banging" during those devastating minutes, but could not determine where it came from.
He immediately called for Mia-Ann, and when there was no answer, he went to the bathroom where he found the little girl partially submerged.
All help came too late for Mia-Ann
He remembered how he lifted his daughter out of the water and immediately began resuscitation measures. Neighbors also rushed to help after Mia-Ann's brother told them about the incident.
Everyone tried desperately to keep the little girl alive until the emergency services arrived.
Julia explained that she was certain that her daughter had not had an epileptic seizure in the minutes leading up to the incident and had no signs of one. The investigations revealed that Mia-Ann had not had a seizure for two years before the tragic accident.
The investigation also revealed that the mother had decades of experience in dealing with family members with epilepsy and had also cared for Mia-Ann's older sister, who also suffers from the condition.
