Crazy coincidence! Daughter reads letter that mom threw into the lake 26 years ago!
Canada - Everyone knows it: As a child, you write a letter, put it in a bottle and throw it into a body of water. But the chances of someone finding the message in a bottle are slim - but not for a woman from Canada!
In 1998, when Makenzie Van Eyk was in fourth grade, she took part in a school project. She was asked to write a note about water quality in large lakes, put it in a bottle and throw it into a lake in Windsor, Canada.
As the school reported, almost three decades later, a child attending the same institution found the message in a bottle while walking with her grandmother by the lake.
"This letter is from Makenzie Morris, and I go to St. John the Baptist School. I'm in fourth grade with Mr. St. Pierre," the message said. The child was stunned and took the letter to school to show it to a teacher.
When she read the note to the current fourth grade class, the little girl could hardly believe her ears.
Makenzie Van Eyk received her message in a bottle 26 years later
"My jaw dropped and everyone asked: 'Who is that? Who is that?' And I said: 'My mother'," said little Scarlet in surprise.
This brought Makenzie full circle. She had wondered all these years what had happened to the letter.
"It was impressive to do something like that and throw it away with the thought that someone might find it," said the mother. But she certainly hadn't expected it to be her own daughter.
Roland St. Pierre, the now retired teacher who came up with the task all those years ago, was equally touched by the miraculous discovery.
He added that he was surprised that the message in a bottle had survived for 26 years without disintegrating.
