Run over twice, not helped once: Jeanette (†19) dies senselessly

Obertrum am See (Austria) - Anyone who commits a hit-and-run is liable to prosecution. However, the following case is not about a fender bender, but about the extinguished life of 19-year-old Jeanette. Two cars hit the young woman - and simply drove on.

On June 16, 2023, a Friday, the waitress was at an Obertrum folk festival in the Salzburg region, which she left at night and walked along the unlit country road 101.

At an intersection leading into the village, she is hit by an oncoming car just 200 meters from the fairground. The driver of the car simply drives on. He later turns himself in and claims to have heard a bang, but that it was a bird.

Another driver recognizes the injured Jeanette, stops and wants to help her. At that moment, another vehicle arrives and runs over the 19-year-old lying on the ground in front of her. This driver also flees. All help comes too late for the Austrian girl, who dies at the scene of the accident one day before her 20th birthday.

Inspection commander Johannes Moser from the Obertrum am See police department was a guest on the ZDF program"Aktenzeichen XY" on Wednesday evening, hoping for cross-border leads.

This is because the L101 road in question leads from Salzburg to Germany. The fugitive could therefore live in Germany or have a connection.

The young woman was hit and run over twice at this point.

File number XY unsolved (ZDF): Investigators are told specific names

The spoiler lip of such a Nissan Pulsar was found at the scene of the accident. Does it belong to the car that caused the accident?

The details of the second car involved in the accident are only vague. It is said to have been a medium-sized, dark-colored car. A Nissan Pulsar, built in 2015, is possibly being sought. The spoiler lip of such a model was found at the scene of the accident, which could well have been torn off when the victim rolled over.

Jeanette's family and friends continue to hope that they will get answers to their questions 16 months after the event.

During the broadcast, "several tips" were received, said Hans J. Wolfgruber from the Salzburg State Police Directorate in response to a TAG24 inquiry.

At least one of them offers a (new) investigative approach. It was already reported in the TV episode that a specific name was mentioned in connection with the accident. Whether this name actually has anything to do with the case is now being investigated.

Wolfgruber speaks of a "success" either way due to the quality and reach of "Aktenzeichen XY" - also from a preventive point of view: "If only one driver is deterred from a hit-and-run as a result, we have already achieved a great deal," he told TAG24.

Information on the double hit-and-run from June 2023 is requested from the Federal Criminal Police Office on 0611 / 551 81 40.

The entire XY broadcast will be available in the ZDF media libraryuntil November 13, 2024 .
