Together with her family, the girl - whose name was Skylar according to the Italian press - had visited the restaurant "I love Pizza Kebap" on her first evening in Rome.

Around fifteen minutes after her visit to the restaurant, the 14-year-old suddenly felt ill. Her symptoms included shortness of breath, chills and palpitations.

A short time later, when the family was back at the hotel, the hotel staff called the emergency services. When the paramedics arrived, they found Skylar unconscious.

The girl was rushed to hospital, but died of anaphylactic shock on the way, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Parents always pay attention to allergy lists

According to Corriere della Sera, investigators from the Monteverde police station began their investigation after the girl's parents told them that their daughter had a peanut allergy. Skylar had already had severe allergic reactions in the past, which is why she avoided products containing peanuts and always read food labels carefully.

Her parents also always ask about allergens in restaurants. It is still unclear whether the pizza restaurant was informed about the allergy.

The police are currently investigating whether there were any allergens in the girl's dessert and are checking the existence of allergen lists in the pizza restaurant.

As soon as the medico-legal investigations have been completed, Skylar's body will be returned to her family in the UK.
