Body found in Italy: German emigrant apparently murdered!
Castellabate (Italy) - After the body of the German emigrant Silvia N. (†53) was presumably found in the Italian province of Salerno on Friday , one thing now seems certain: the woman was probably the victim of a violent crime.
The final identification of the deceased, who was discovered by the police in a canal near the coastal community of Ogliastro Marina, is still pending.
However, all signs currently point to it being the German woman who had been living nearby with her husband for several years.
The 53-year-old was reported missing by her husband on Tuesday. According to him, she left the house in the morning without much luggage and never returned.
Three days later, the shocking discovery was made: according to the police, the body not only had significant injuries - apparently an attempt had also been made to burn the woman's dead body. This is also the reason why the identification took so long.
The discovery site is only about 150 meters away from the house that the couple had bought a few years ago on the Mediterranean coast in southern Italy.
Husband also questioned after body found
According to Italian media reports, the husband, also a German, was interrogated by the police for hours with the help of a translator. After a night at the police station, he was released without any charges being brought against him.
The police were reluctant to provide information on the status of the investigation. They merely said that no hypothesis was being ruled out.
The mayor of the municipality, Marco Rizzo, told the daily newspaper "Corriere del Mezzogiorno" that there had never been any problems with the couple. "I never heard any quarrels or arguments between them. They were calm people, always friendly."
