After five years of renovations, the marine park in Shenzhen , China, finally reopened its doors to visitors at the beginning of October.

Around 100,000 onlookers are said to have come during a seven-day trial run, but as the British newspaper"The Sun" reports, they were less than enthusiastic.

Many of the visitors were not only disappointed, they felt they had been made fun of. The advertised whale shark turned out to be fake.

Through the glass of the huge tank, visitors are said to have noticed that the specimen was clearly a robot.

There are reports of clearly visible gaps in its body, into which the various mechanical parts are fitted.

Visitors are outraged by fake whale shark

Following this discovery, visitors are said to have angrily demanded their money back for the fake shark and left scathing reviews about their visit to the marine park.

Xiaomeisha Ocean World then justified itself and explained that it had to resort to the mechanical animal because the trade in live whale sharks is prohibited.

However, it was not only the "shark scam" that was criticized; visitors were also critical of the care of the real, live fish.

On closer inspection, they are said to have discovered that many of the animals are in poor health and suffer from white spot disease.
