The boy was shot in the head and face on a remote hill in England just over a week ago.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene. Jay was taken to hospital by helicopter, but he succumbed to his injuries the following night.

The Sun reports that a man in his 60s was arrested near the scene, initially on suspicion of assault and later manslaughter by gross negligence. He has since been released on bail.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of our perfect little boy. He was loving, kind and full of mischief, the best boy you could wish for and the third corner of our beautiful family triangle," his parents said.

They went on to say that Jay was an avid soccer player and dreamed of moving to Brazil and meeting Argentinian Lionel Messi.

"We will miss him every day, but his love surrounds us and his memory will never fade," the parents concluded their touching farewell message.
