Prison inmate brutally beats up therapy dog

Michigan (USA) - He is already in prison. Now Romello Maxwell's (27) prison stay has been extended because the inmate brutally beat a therapy dog.

Tail wagging, the puppy moves towards the prisoner. Unsuspecting that it is about to catch a sneaky blow.

The one-year-old puppy named Josie was sent to staff and inmates on Sept. 24 to calm them down, but Maxwell had the exact opposite effect.

Video from a police department in the state of Michigan from a few days ago shares the nasty incident.

Even if it only lasts a few seconds, it does not fail to have an effect.

It shows the small four-legged friend moving unsuspectingly and wagging its tail in the direction of the man lying down.

The 27-year-old moves upwards in a flash, lunges with full force and gives the animal a resounding blow.

According to a report by People.com, the dog suffered a concussion and an injury to the pupil as a result of this brutal attack. The vet bill amounted to thousands of US dollars.

Josie, who whimpered and retreated after the devious beating, has since recovered. She herself was also shown at a press conference, where Sheriff Christopher Swanson made it clear that such crimes would not be tolerated.

"If you do this to the animals, we will punish the humans as well," the police officer said harshly.

The public prosecutor also emphasized that charges were immediately brought against Romello Maxwell after the clip of the brutal beating incident surfaced and was investigated.

The US inmate has already been sentenced to four years in prison for assault in the past.

It is likely that his sentence will now be doubled and he will have to serve eight years.
