Customer buys supermarket salad and discovers mysterious animal in it
Bracknell (United Kingdom) - The customer of a British supermarket has returned the salad bag he bought. The reason was a live frog inside! Where the animal came from remains a mystery.
The incident at the Waitrose chain was reported by the BBC. The mysterious amphibian later ended up at one of the chain's distribution centers in Bracknell, England, and was recently handed over to an animal rescue organization.
"I have no idea where he came from, but he's happy where he is," Graham Martin of Berkshire Reptile Rescue told the broadcaster.
"He's in a lovely little box with soil and leaves for him to hide in and a little water bowl. I've given him a few bugs to eat and he's enjoying life." They do not want to release him, as they currently do not know where the frog came from.
A spokesperson for the parent company John Lewis Partnership told the broadcaster that they apologized to the customer concerned.
This was a very rare occurrence. "There is a rigorous sorting and washing process that should have removed this toad," it said.
