Climate activists throw kilos of flour at car artwork

Milan - Climate activists in the Italian metropolis of Milan have thrown eight kilograms of flour at a car artwork by US pop artist Andy Warhol exhibited there.

Some visitors even got into an argument with the climate activists from "Ultima Generazione" when they spilled flour in a museum.

With the action on Friday morning at the Fabbrica del Vapore cultural center, the women of Ultima Generazione (Last Generation) wanted to draw attention to the"collapse of the climate", as the group announced.

A video showed them approaching the 1979 German sports car painted by Andy Warhol and tipping the flour packets over it.

Security staff then dragged two activists out of the room, as could be seen further on.

Some visitors got into an argument with the women.

"We don't see you shouting at the oil companies. We don't see you in front of the mega ships in Venice. We see you with flour in front of a car. Do you understand this crap?" shouted an angry man, as seen on another video of the group.

According to Ultima Generazione, members of the group tried to stick themselves to the windows of the car, but were unable to do so.

Climate activists also take to the streets in Rome

"The artworks were targeted in order to highlight the hypocrisy of values in our society", the group explained the action. There is outrage over the "simulated destruction of works of art", but indifference prevails over the destruction of nature, they said.

The climate activists have also taped themselves to other works of art in Italy, most recently to a Van Gogh painting in Rome. In the capital, they regularly block sections of road, such as the important highway ring road.
