Burglars shoot grandma, then twelve-year-old grandson also pulls out a gun
Goldsboro (USA) - Two burglars shot at a 73-year-old female resident. Then her twelve-year-old grandson reacted and made short work of the armed intruders.
On Saturday night, two unidentified men broke into the home of 73-year-old Linda Ellis in the US state of North Carolina . While searching for cash and other valuables, they discovered the woman and shot her, local TV station WRAL reported, citing police information.
Awakened by the gunshot, the woman's twelve-year-old grandson, who happened to be staying with her that night, went to check what was going on and discovered the two strangers.
Nevertheless, he found a gun in the stress, which presumably belonged to Ellis, and used it to put the burglars under a lot of pressure.
Exactly what happened next has not yet been fully clarified. However, the boy shot one of the burglars at least once. The two criminals then fled. But one of them, 19-year-old Khalil Herring, did not get far.
Police officers found the young burglar, who succumbed to his serious injuries, lying on the side of the road just a few meters from the house. The second escaped.
Linda Ellis was treated in hospital at the weekend. She escaped with minor injuries, WRAL reported.
The young man apparently survived his first exchange of gunfire unharmed. His family is keeping his identity under wraps, but has given interviews about the heroic act.
The police are now searching for the second perpetrator.
