It's obvious: we wash our hands all the time, but we also use our cell phones all the time. We rarely clean it, especially when the fingerprints on the display get out of hand.
Now Apple employees have quite rightly discovered that the iPhone is becoming a breeding ground for the coronavirus! The virus can survive on a cell phone for between two hours and nine days.
The tech-savvy people at Apple therefore now explain on their website how to clean and disinfect your smartphone properly.
First things first: bleach has no place on a cell phone. Pure alcohol also damages the device. It should also never be immersed in cleaning agents, even if the phone is waterproof.
Apple recommends using a cloth with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol or special Clorox disinfectant wipes for disinfecting. This should only be wiped carefully over the display and the back.

To clean your cell phone properly and not just kill bacteria, you should first remove all cables and accessories.
It is then best to use a lint-free cloth for cleaning. Cloths that you also use to clean camera lenses or glasses are particularly suitable.
You should then moisten it once with lukewarm water and run it over the surface of your phone. It shouldn't drip, but it shouldn't be too dry either.
Apple warns: "Do not use cleaning agents or compressed air."
Apple iPhones have a fingerprint-resistant, oil-repellent coating. This can be destroyed by cleaning agents or pure alcohol.
If you use a screen protector, you should also replace it regularly. This is because viruses and bacteria also collect on it in large numbers. Also remember to wipe and disinfect your phone case if you use one.
Users of other cell phone brands can also easily follow these instructions. Lukewarm water on a cloth will not damage a newer cell phone.
