As Daily Mail reports, a 41-year-old Jamaican man remains in the UK despite a deportation order after being sentenced to seven years in prison for raping a woman in a nightclub in 2018.

The man, who arrived on the island in 2001 at the age of 18, had claimed at his trial that he did not know that having sex with a sleeping woman was wrong.

He was released early in 2021 after serving only half of his sentence.

Although the British Home Office classified him as a "danger to the community" and ordered his deportation, the court is now protecting him from returning to Jamaica.

The man argued that he had repeatedly been the victim of violence in Jamaica because he is bisexual.

He reported being attacked with a machete, a metal bar and by dogs in his home country. In addition, an older man with whom he had been in a relationship had been killed.

According to The Sun, the court eventually ruled in his favor, as he could face further serious attacks in Jamaica, and refused to deport him.

Despite his horrific crime, the 41-year-old will therefore remain under the protection of the British state. This decision has caused outrage in the UK and has been met with harsh criticism.
