The incident occurred last Friday on a plane operated by US airline Southwest Airlines, as reported byCNN.

The cell phone battery suddenly caught fire and all 108 passengers had to be removed from the Boeing 737.

Fortunately, the plane was not yet in the air, but parked at the gate. The passengers in the front section were able to simply walk back down the gangway, while the passengers in the rear section had to escape via an emergency slide.

The passenger whose cell phone had caused the fire suffered burns, another was slightly injured.

The airline then took care of getting the passengers to their destination - Houston - on another flight.

The exact cause of the fire is still unclear. "Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of its customers and employees. The incident remains under investigation," said a spokesperson for the company.
