As Armin told the news portal"heute.at", a homeowner hired the tradesman for a renovation in Penzing, the 14th district of the Austrian capital.

The plumber was working in the cellar when a colleague noticed a rope. However, he didn't bother, while Armin was obviously preoccupied by the discovery. The next day, he pulled on the rope.

A good decision, which revealed a wooden box that had previously been set in concrete, the contents of which were quite something. The chest contained around 30 kilograms of Mozart coins made of pure gold!

According to the report, the forgotten treasure is now worth around 2.3 million euros.

It is still unclear how much the craftsman is allowed to keep

"I've been working on the construction site since I was 15. Every now and then you find the odd coin, but a discovery like this is incredible," said the plumber, delighted with the unique discovery.

However, it is not yet clear how much of it the craftsman will be allowed to keep. According to Austrian law, the finder and the landowner are each entitled to half of the treasure. However, workers are only entitled to one third in the event of an accidental discovery (§ 401 AGBG).

In addition, the treasure must first be reported as an "archaeological chance find" to the police or the competent administrative authority, which in turn notifies the Federal Monuments Office.
