Hospital tragedy: Basketball coach dies at 43 during surgery
Tampa (USA) - Tragic death - at the age of just 43! He achieved unprecedented success in USuniversity basketball and enjoyed great popularity - but now there is great sadness for Amir Abdur-Rahim, head coach of the South Florida Bulls.
According to official information, the US-American died during a medical procedure.
"Abdur-Rahim, 43, was undergoing a medical procedure at a Tampa area hospital when he passed away due to complications that arose during the procedure," the University of South Florida announced in a statement last Thursday evening (local time) - without providing further details on the exact cause of death.
"He was genuine, determined and his infectious personality captivated the entire Bulls Nation," Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly was quoted as saying - and also assured the relatives of his solidarity.
"We are supporting those closest to him, including his family, his team and his athletics staff, to ensure they have the resources they need to deal with this tremendous loss."

University President Rhea Law was also saddened by Abdur-Rahim's death, addressing emotional words to the deceased, "Throughout my time working with Coach Abdur-Rahim, I was continually inspired by his leadership and truly admired his genuine approach to connecting with our entire student body."
Abdur-Rahim was named Coach of the Year last season after winning the championship with his team. He is survived by his three children and his wife Arianne.
